Our History

D&S Logging came into existence in 1983 at the hands of Don Arndt and his father-in-law Sam Tyler. Sam had co-owned a logging company with his brothers in addition to the experience he had working for other logging companies. Don Arndt was working a pole-barn building business he started several years prior

When Don was approached by an acquaintance to buy an old TD20 International and work into logging, he talked it over with Sam and decided they would go into business together as D&S Logging. Originally, their jobs consisted of salvage work and thinning. Over time, they grew into clear-cut harvesting.

Over the years D&S has grown with the times. Technologies change. Markets change. Regulations change. But through these changes there are constants. Land owners are always looking for well managed clean job sites. Efficiency is a must for land owners looking for competitive logging rates. The highest quality log manufacturing is vital to maximizing the timber-owner's investment.

D&S recognizes these values are what do not change. This means we leave stream-beds as undisturbed as possible and access road well cared for. It means we work efficiently so we can provide the timber owner with a competitive logging rate. It means we make a concerted effort to provide the highest quality log manufacturing, optimizing the timber's value.

Harvesting timber is more than simply logging trees. Its is managing the land so that timber resources can be renewed year after year.

Since the early days of D&S Logging, Sam retired (1997) and two of Don’s sons (Larsen and Marshall) have become part of the business. The D&S team is close-knit, with 125+ years of combined experience. Several of them have spent the majority of their career with D&S.
